Athletic Brewing, NA Beer Brand, Valued At $800 Million

Athletic Brewing, the non-alcoholic beer brand that’s led a wave of growth in the segment over the past few years, has raised another $50 million in expansion funds in a new financing round that values the company at approximately $800 million. The equity financing round was led by General Atlantic, with existing investors also participating.

From a base of 875 barrels in 2018, Athletic sold over 258,000 barrels last year, placing it among the top 20 breweries in the U.S. The company says dollar sales are currently growing by 60%, bolstering its 19% market share within non-alcoholic beer, adding that the Athletic brand is driving 32% of overall category growth. Athletic has facilities in Milford, Connecticut and San Diego, and recently acquired the former Ballast Point brewery, also in San Diego, with plans to double the total production capacity of the brand. —Daniel Marsteller
