WES Brands’ Aspen Vodka Opens New Carbon-Negative Distillery
July 16, 2024Aspen Vodka, part of the WES stable of brands that also includes Flecha Azul Tequila, Fraser & Thompson Whiskey, and BSB Flavored Whiskey, opened its new 18,000-square-foot distillery last month. Built on a former lumber yard, the fully electric facility is billed as the largest carbon-negative distillery in the world, and is said to be the first distillery awarded the LEEDv4 BD+C certification, the highest standard for building energy efficiency designated by the U.S. Green Building Council.
“We’ve built a state-of-the-art distillery that’s all about pushing boundaries in sustainability,” WES Brands co-president and COO Sean Penn told SND. “We’re set up to grow and meet increasing demand.” The company declined to comment on the new facility’s production capacity. “We’ve seen a significant consumer response to Aspen Vodka’s sustainability message,” added the brand’s founder Matt Patel. Aspen joined the WES Brands portfolio early this year and is currently targeting markets including Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New York, and Texas, retailing at $30 a 750-ml.—Daniel Marsteller
