Bonterra, Trivento, Casillero del Diablo Driving Growth For Viña Concha y Toro USA
August 1, 2024Chile-based Viña Concha y Toro has posted sales up 18% to $253 million in the second quarter, as profit soared 243% to $23 million. “The company is poised to continue growing in sales and profitability, with double-digit revenue growth in 2024,” noted company general manager Eduardo Guilisasti.
In the U.S., key labels like Bonterra, Casillero del Diablo, and Trivento are driving gains. “The growth we are seeing in the U.S. is a combination of early measures we took to bring inventory levels in line, therefore minimizing much of the destocking effect we’re seeing across distributors and retailers,” Allison Wetsel, president of Sales and Wholesale Operations at Viña Concha y Toro USA, told SND. “Leveling this has allowed us to move to a pure pull model with consumption driving the revenue growth.”
California brand Bonterra, which depleted 470,000 cases in the U.S. last year, according to Impact Databank, rose 5% in Circana channels in the year through June. “Bonterra is not only one of the only super-premium brands driving growth but the only super-premium California brand that is organic,” said Wetsel. “In addition, Frontera is gaining share in a commercial space many competitors are abandoning at a time when consumers are focused on value.” Frontera, from Chile, is up 6% in Circana channels over the past year.
Casillero del Diablo from Chile and Trivento Reserve from Argentina are also driving gains in the U.S., up 4% and 16% respectively in Circana channels in the 52 weeks through June 30, Wetsel noted. Trivento jumped 16% to 142,000 cases in the U.S. last year, according to Impact Databank. “South America is offering significant value in the premium category. We are meeting consumers with multiple offerings across our portfolio where their dollar share is being spent.”—Daniel Marsteller
