August 6, 2024•Ohio’s adult-use market kicks off today, with almost 100 dispensaries receiving state approval. Late last week, major cannabis companies including Cresco Labs, Green Thumb Industries, Trulieve, The Cannabist Company, and Verano revealed that state regulators informed the companies that their certificates of operation would be delivered in time for adult-use sales to begin on August 6. Green Thumb has five retail locations in the state, as does The Cannabist, while Trulieve has three. •Missouri has banned hemp-derived THC products through an executive order from Governor Mike Patton. The order bans the category by limiting hemp-derived products to state approved sources, which currently don’t exist. The governor cited a 600% rise in cannabis poisoning in children under five as the primary motivation for the ban. Enforcement will be handled by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, which has the authority to ban offending products. In addition, liquor stores will put their liquor license at risk if they are found selling hemp-derived THC products. The ban excludes all products regulated under Missouri’s adult-use market.
•The Cannabist Company has expanded its partnership with cannabis brand Airo, launching the Oria by Airo edible line in New Jersey. The line comes in six flavors—Bahama Breeze, Berry Bliss, Black Mamba, Sumatran Sunrise, Midnight Moon, and Citrus Splash—all at 10-mg. of THC per gummy. In addition, Sumatran Sunrise and Citrus Slash contain CBC and Midnight Moon contains CBN. The fast-acting gummies are made using live resin and are vegan and gluten free friendly.
•New York State’s crackdown on illegal cannabis shops continues, with the state announcing that 779 stores in New York City have been padlocked and 230 have been forced to close in the rest of the state. In the 10 weeks since enforcement, the state reports that legal sales are up 72% in New York City with retailers overall seeing an additional $2.6 million in weekly revenue since the crackdown began.
