Report: Kobrand Taps Jackson Family’s Aguero As New CEO

August 14, 2024

New York-based importer and marketer Kobrand is set to come under new leadership, as Jackson Family Wines veteran Marcelo Aguero has reportedly been named president and CEO, effective September 9, replacing longtime chief executive Bob DeRoose, who is retiring after four decades with the company. The appointment was reported by Wine Business; Kobrand didn’t immediately return a request for confirmation.

Aguero has spent the past two decades with Jackson Family Wines, most recently as executive vice president of marketing and DTC. He spent over 11 years with Jackson Family’s California distribution unit, Regal Wine Company, rising to become senior vice president and general manager.

Owned by the Kopf family, Kobrand has a wide-ranging portfolio that includes California wineries like Cakebread Cellars, Sequoia Grove, and St. Francis, as well as imports Louis Jadot, Champagne Taittinger, Sassicaia, Craggy Range, and the Ports of Taylor Fladgate, Fonseca, and Croft. Newer additions include Résonance from Oregon, La Chapelle Hermitage, Paul Jaboulet Aîné, and Aix from France, Buglioni from Italy, Norton from Argentina, Montes from Chile, and the Joto Sake portfolio from Japan. Total wine volume is estimated at roughly 1 million cases annually. —Daniel Marsteller
