Mary Jones Expands in Michigan, Doubles Revenue From A Small Base

August 20, 2024

Cannabis and hemp-derived THC drinks brand Mary Jones has expanded into Michigan’s flourishing cannabis market, amid a period of wider growth for the brand. For its newest market, Mary Jones has partnered with Emerald Canning Partners (ECP) to produce state-compliant drinks. Initially, the brand will roll out its THC mixing syrups in September, with the full Mary Jones line of cannabis sodas and other products to follow.

In addition to adding the new state, Mary Jones has launched a line of 100-mg. THC shooters in California. The 2-ounce shots are marketed as containing 10 10-mg. servings and are intended for sharing and mixing into other drinks. The shooters are available in Berry Lemonade, MF Grape, Green Apple and Orange & Cream flavors.

For its second quarter 2024, Mary Jones parent company Jones Soda Co. reported that its hemp and cannabis drinks brought in $1.2 million in revenue, doubling Q1 2024’s revenue and tripling from Q2 2023. The brand’s success has driven growth for the overall company, with Jones Soda reporting gross profit as a percentage of revenue increasing to 35.8% compared to 32.4% the previous year.

“We’ve also seen strong growth within our Mary Jones products division as we continue launching into new categories and make progress towards our planned geographic expansion,” said David Knight, Jones Soda Co.’s president and CEO.

Overall, Mary Jones cannabis products are sold in more than 1,200 dispensaries in California, Washington, Canada, and now Michigan, with the company planning to enter more markets. Its hemp delta-9 (HD9) craft sodas, gummies, and shooters are sold through liquor stores and other brick-and-mortar retailers across the country as well as online.—Shane English
