William Grant To Acquire Famous Grouse, Naked Malt From Edrington
September 23, 2024William Grant & Sons is set to add to its Scotch whisky stable with the acquisition of the Famous Grouse and Naked Malt brands from Edrington for an undisclosed sum.The deal is subject to customary regulatory approvals.
According to Impact Databank, the Famous Grouse is the eighth-largest blended Scotch brand globally at 2.78 million cases, including about 112,000 cases in the U.S. It’s set to join the Grant’s brand—with global volume of 4.38 million cases—in William Grant’s blended stable. Blended malt label Naked Malt has global volume of 53,000 cases.
Edrington CEO Scott McCroskie said the divestiture is “driven by our strategy to focus on our core strengths and the growth opportunities in the ultra-premium spirits category. We consider this the right moment for Edrington to exit the blended Scotch category and focus on our core portfolio of ultra-premium spirit brands.” High-end single malt The Macallan drove Edrington’s sales up 11% to £1.2 billion ($1.5b) in its fiscal year through March. Profit before tax increased 6% to £411 million ($521m).—Daniel Marsteller
