Cannabis Briefs for November 5, 2024

November 5, 2024

The rescheduling of cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III in the U.S. has been further delayed, with an administrative law judge calling for more detailed information and to set a hearing date for January or February of 2025. The move follows DEA administrator Anne Milgram approving more than 20 witnesses for the hearing, originally scheduled for December 2. The administrative judge, John Mulrooney, delayed the hearing because he believed the DEA’s documentation was insufficient, lacking information about whether the witnesses were for or against rescheduling cannabis, and also wanted to allow time to identify any conflicts of interest among the witnesses.

•Cannabis delivery is now legal for Arizona’s adult-use consumers. Prior to November 1, cannabis delivery was restricted to medical patients in the state. The expansion is a boon for the state’s cannabis retailers, with adult-use consumers dwarfing the medical patient community since adult-use sales began. According to the state, there were fewer than 100,000 medical patients in Arizona in August, a substantial drop from July 2021, when the state had over 330,000 medical patients.

Multistate player PharmaCann has expanded its partnership with California Artisanal Medicine (CAM) to New York, bringing a new line of high-end cannabis to the Empire State. Under the agreement, PharmaCann will be the exclusive cultivator and distributor for CAM’s strains of cannabis throughout the state. The partnership officially launched in late October in Verilife dispensaries in New York, along with select dispensary partners like Buffalo’s Buffalo Dreams, the Bronx’s Hush, Long Island’s Happy Days, Manhattan’s Culture House, and Albany’s Royale Flower. For the launch, select CAM strains will be available in 3.5- and 7-g. packs.
