Chateau Montelena Expands In Chardonnay With Carneros Vineyard Buy

March 19, 2025

Napa Valley winery Chateau Montelena has acquired a 73-acre vineyard in the Carneros AVA with an eye toward boosting its Chardonnay program. Terms were undisclosed. The vineyard is situated at the base of Mount Veeder, and will serve as the “future home” of Montelena’s Chardonnay, according to the company, which added that the acquisition “marks a significant investment in Montelena’s future, with plans to begin planting in 2026.” Owned by the Barrett family, Montelena has a national partnership with importer and marketer Vintus and produces around 40,000 cases annually. Its Napa Valley Chardonnay retails at $75.—Daniel Marsteller
