The European Union has pushed back retaliatory tariffs on American whiskies and other goods until mid-April, citing the need to refine the list of products subject to the levy. The tariffs were previously scheduled to take effect March 31. During the pause, the E.U. hopes to further discussions of the tariffs with the U.S. and defuse trade tensions.

As it stands, the E.U. expects to implement tariffs on nearly $30 billion of American exports in response to U.S. levies on steel and aluminum. President Trump has threatened a 200% tariff on European alcohol shipments to the U.S. in retaliation for the E.U. tariffs on whiskies and other goods.

Yesterday, SND reported that the U.S. Wine Trade Alliance has strongly advised its members to pause European shipments to the U.S. to avoid the potential 200% charge.—Shane English
