Rescheduling Cannabis A Low Priority For Trump Administration

April 8, 2025

Despite campaign promises, rescheduling cannabis is a low priority for the second Trump administration, according reports from CNN. An anonymous statement from the White House to the cable network said that cannabis rescheduling and other federal reforms aren’t currently a priority for the administration.

In an attempt to prompt action from the president, the American Rights and Reforms PAC (formerly Legalize America) has purchased commercial airtime in the Washington, D.C. and Palm Beach, Florida areas to run pro-rescheduling ads. The PAC is backed by the cannabis industry with Cresco Labs and Curaleaf Holdings as its top two donors. The campaign features 30-second ads and cost the PAC $1 million for the airtime.—Shane English
