Johnson Brothers Acquires Texas’ Maverick Beverage Company, Expands Into Lone Star State

April 23, 2025

Wine and spirits distributor Johnson Brothers has acquired Maverick Beverage Company, bringing the fourth-largest distributor in the U.S. into Texas. While financial terms were not disclosed, the company said that the move will bring roughly 400 of Maverick’s employees into the Johnson Brothers fold. While Johnson Brothers is acquiring Maverick’s operations in Texas, Arizona, Colorado, and Florida, Maverick’s businesses in Minnesota and Illinois are not part of the deal.

“Like Johnson Brothers, Maverick has a phenomenal reputation for building premium portfolios with execution and accountability,” said Michael Johnson, Johnson Brothers’ chairman. “The Maverick acquisition is a priority for our long-term growth, and we look forward to building on their outstanding success.”

This is Johnson Brothers’ second expansion this month, following the acquisition of Albemarle Distributing Company’s wine business in the eastern part of North Carolina. With the addition of Texas, Johnson Brothers now operates in 20 states across the U.S. and generates annual revenue above $3 billion, according to Shanken’s Impact Newsletter.—Shane English
