Stoller Buys Joe Wagner’s Oregon Brand Elouan

June 12, 2025

Oregon’s Stoller Wine Group has purchased Elouan from Joe Wagner’s Copper Cane Wines & Provisions. While the price of the buy was not disclosed, Stoller’s deal nets the company the brand as well as its existing inventory—both bottled and bulk wines. Buying Elouan roughly doubles Stoller’s size, as the company will go from 170,000 to 300,000 cases with the addition of Elouan. Stoller Wine Group also produces Stoller Family Estate, Chehalem Winery, and Chemistry, among other labels.

“Elouan is the No. 3 selling Pinot Noir from Oregon across the country, and we are excited about how it will enhance our overall portfolio by leveraging their existing network to get our world-class wines into the hands of consumers,” said Gary Mortensen, president of Stoller Wine Group. SND has also reached out to Wagner for comment.

The move solidifies the brand’s Oregon credentials. Previously, Wagner and Copper Cane made Elouan in California from grapes grown in Oregon. According to Stoller, Elouan, beginning with the 2025 vintage, will be made in Oregon with production fully handled by Stoller’s vineyards by 2027. The company plans to use the Umpqua Valley’s Coles Valley Vineyard as a major source of grapes for Elouan, the Portland Business Journal reported.

Elouan has seen controversy in the past, with critics taking issue with the brand’s California-based production for an Oregon-labeled wine. In 2018, the brand was forced to alter its labels to conform with the Tax and Trade Bureau’s policies.

The sale follows the May announcement that Elouan was adding a Reserve tier to its Pinot Noir focused lineup. The newcomers include an Elouan Reserve Chardonnay 2023 and Elouan Reserve Pinot Noir 2023, retailing at $40 and $50 a bottle respectively. The Reserve wines are sourced from single vineyards along Oregon’s Western maritime region.

The Copper Cane portfolio continues to include wines like Boen, Quilt, and Belle Glos. Including Elouan, Impact Databank estimates Copper Cane’s volume was approximately 500,000 cases two years ago, with volume declining some last year.—Shane English
