William Grant & Sons Posts Sales Of $2.4 Billion For 2024

William Grant & Sons has posted sales down 6.5% to £1.8 billion ($2.4b) for the 12 months through last December, as profit before tax registered £388 million ($518m) on a 30% decline from the prior year. The Scotland-based company said the year was “marked by industry-wide challenges,” adding that the profit decrease was attributable both to the tough conditions as well as its continuing investment behind its brands.

While much of the William Grant portfolio has seen volume declines in control states in the current year-to-date through June, its Hendrick’s gin label has held steady and the company has benefited from double-digit gains from smaller bases on the Grant’s Scotch and Hudson American whiskey brands. Meanwhile, its Icelandic vodka label Reyka continues to show solid momentum. Reyka earned Impact “Hot Brand” honors for its 2024 performance earlier this year.

In late March, William Grant named industry veteran James Casey as U.S. president and managing director, and Vérane de Marffy as CMO for the U.S. Casey joined William Grant from Constellation, where he served as senior vice president and chief sales officer of the wine and spirits division, having previously held key roles at Diageo, Gallo, and Treasury Wine Estates. Marffy is a veteran of L’Oreal and Ralph Lauren Fragrances.

“2024 was a challenging year for the spirits industry, with both global economic conditions and continued destocking weighing heavily on performance in comparison to 2023,” noted William Grant & Sons CEO Søren Hagh. “That being said, profits were broadly in line with 2022 and our confidence in the future of spirits means we have continued to invest in both our brands and distilleries for the long-term.”

Notably, William Grant recently added the Famous Grouse and Naked Malt Scotch whisky brands to its range after acquiring the duo from Edrington in a deal that closed earlier this month for an undisclosed sum. Hagh noted that Famous Grouse has “a strong market position in a number of countries” and said the company sees “a lot of potential in Naked Malt,” adding, “Together, these brands perfectly complement our vision for growth, and we look forward to investing in their future.”—Daniel Marsteller
