August 4, 2025•The Duckhorn Portfolio has named Enrique Morgan as the company’s newest executive vice president and chief sales officer. Morgan succeeds Pete Przybylinski who will continue to advise Duckhorn CEO Robert Hanson. Morgan joins Duckhorn with nearly 25 years of industry experience, serving in leadership roles at Moët Hennessy North America and, before that, at Accolade Wines and Treasury Wine Estates. He started in the industry working at Gallo Sales Company and Constellation Brands. Late last year, the Duckhorn Portfolio was acquired by private equity group Butterfly for $1.95 billion.
•The Boston Beer Company’s CEO Michael Spillane has announced his departure, effective August 15, with company founder and chairman of the board Jim Koch returning to the CEO position for the first time since 2001. Spillane cited the need to “focus on some important personal matters” as the reason for his departure and will remain on Boston Beer’s board as a non-executive director. Of Spillane’s tenure as CEO, Koch says, “Under his guidance, we delivered one of our most profitable quarters in many years in the second quarter. I appreciate everything Michael has done for us, and we’re thrilled he’s going to continue to help shape our strategy as a member of our board of directors.” The Boston Beer Company’s portfolio consists of the Sam Adams, Dogfish Head, Twisted Tea, Truly, and Sun Cruiser brands, among others.
•Rémy Cointreau-owned Westland Distillery has debuted the second batch of the whiskey maker’s beer and wine cask-finished American single malts. This round features a 6-year-old malt finished in a combination of Stout/Porter, Brown Ale, Imperial Munich Lager, and Foudre Ale casks before bottling at 46% abv. The wine cask-finished release, also bottled at 46% abv, is a 5-year-old malt finished in Tempranillo, WA Red Blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot casks. Both releases are limited—roughly 13,000 bottles of Beer Cask Finish and roughly 9,000 bottles of Wine Cask Finish are available—with both whiskies retailing for a suggested price of $75.
