Diageo Closing Crown Royal Facility In Ontario

August 29, 2025

Diageo will close a Crown Royal bottling facility in Amherstburg, Ontario by February, 2026, as part of the company’s wider efficiency-increasing program, Accelerate. In its statement, Diageo affirms that Crown Royal will continue to be made in Canada and that the company will maintain bottling and production operations in Gimli, Manitoba and Valleyfield, Quebec. The company notes that Crown Royal bound for the U.S. will not be affected by the closure and will continue to be bottled in Valleyfield.

While the company did not detail layoffs, it pledged to work with both union and non-union workers during the facility’s closure. “We appreciate our dedicated Amherstburg employees for their contributions to Diageo and the Crown Royal brand. This was a difficult decision, but one that is crucial to improving the efficiency and resiliency of our supply chain network,” said Marsha McIntosh, president of North America supply.

Crown Royal is one of a handful of billion-dollar brands owned by Diageo. Last year, Crown Royal, including flavors, was up 4% to 7.2 million cases in the U.S., according to Impact Databank. With retail value of approximately $2.4 billion, Crown Royal is the third most valuable spirits brand in the U.S. behind only Tito’s and portfoliomate Don Julio Tequila.
