President Trump Shares Pro-Cannabinoid Video, Sparks Industry Hope for Rescheduling
September 30, 2025The Trump administration has once again sparked hope for the federal rescheduling of cannabis, with the President’s Truth Social account sharing a pro-cannabinoid video and Republican Senator Bernie Moreno expressing hope that the SAFER Banking Act would pass this year. In addition, the Justice Department has agreed to stay the lawsuit challenging the legitimacy of the rescheduling process, since no progress has been made this year. The lawsuit was filed by David Heldreth of Panacea Plant Sciences and the motion to stay was filed jointly by Heldreth and the DOJ.
As for the video shared by President Trump, it advocated for CBD products and others containing cannabinoids to be covered by Medicare. The video—which did not feature commentary from Trump himself—called the benefits of CBD and cannabinoids “the most important senior health initiative of the century.”
Without an update from the White House, it is unclear what this apparent endorsement of CBD and cannabinoids means for rescheduling or federal legalization. But the president’s backing may be a boon for the threatened hemp THC industry, as it could press Republican lawmakers advocating for a total THC ban to soften their stances. Regarding the SAFER Banking Act, long sought by cannabis companies in order to free up banking resources to the industry, Senator Moreno expressed hope that the bill would be taken up by Congress in the fourth quarter, according to an interview with Ask a Pol.—Shane English
