Target Testing Hemp THC Drinks In Minnesota Stores
October 14, 2025Retail giant Target has begun testing sales of hemp-derived THC drinks in Minnesota. Sales began in recent days, with brands such as Cann, Wynk, Señorita, and Wyld, among others, available in select Target locations in the state. Hemp THC drinks are stocked in liquor stores within larger Target retailers, with potency capped at 5mg per serving.
Target has added the drinks just before Minnesota is set to close a loophole governing “low potency” THC products, with companies now required to apply for a new license before October 31 to continue to sell their products in the state. Alongside the new license, hemp THC edibles and drinks will be subject to more rigorous testing requirements, beginning next year.
“I believe that low dose hemp beverages are the battering ram for legalization of cannabis,” said Aaron Edelheit, industry investor and CEO of Mindset Capital, on X, formerly Twitter. “These drinks are destroying old stigmas and opening markets across the country. Target selling THC drinks is simply an amazing step towards full normalization.”
Target’s test run comes amid ongoing regulatory developments for hemp-derived THC products across the U.S. Recently, the Texas legislature failed to enact a ban, with Governor Greg Abbott instead introducing regulations to age-gate THC products via executive order. Effective today, Ohio enacted a 90-day ban on hemp THC products in order to create regulations for the category. In addition, Illinois is weighing a ban, and California is set to integrate hemp THC into its cannabis regulatory framework.—Shane English
