October 27, 2025

U.S. control states saw 9-liter case volume rise 0.7% in September, while value dipped 0.9%. On a rolling 12-month basis, case volume is down 0.7% while value has slipped by 1.6%. There were seven additional selling days across control states this September compared with last year, boosting monthly results slightly.

Vodka posted improvement in control states last month, NABCA reported, lifted by a variety of smaller brands. But in the past 12 months only RTDs and Tequila are positive among all categories in both dollar and case volume.

Wine also saw better results in September, up 1.3% by volume despite a 0.7% value decline, with growth led by Sauvignon Blanc, Prosecco, and Chardonnay. Over the past 12 months, wine’s case volume is down 5.8% while value has decreased by 4.1%.

The on-premise was likewise a bright spot in September, with all control states showing gains, resulting in case volume up 4.7% and dollars up 2.4% overall. In the last 12 months spirits’ on-premise case volume is roughly flat at -0.3%, with value at -1.9%. On-premise wine volume grew 1.8% while dollars rose 2.6% for the month, NABCA said.—Daniel Marsteller
