Reposado Tequila, Sparkling Wines Providing A Lift, WSWA Says
November 7, 2025While wine and spirits sales in the U.S. continue to face challenges, according to new numbers from the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America’s SipSource group, bright spots have emerged in certain categories ahead of the holiday season.
Year-to-date, spirits depletions are down 5.9% by volume and 5.1% by revenue, the group said, with wine down 8.5% by volume and 6.9% by value. On rolling 12-month basis, trends are somewhat better with spirits down 4.8% in volume and 4.3% in revenue, and wine down 7.5% and 5.9%.
SipSource forecasts that the holiday season will provide a bump, as it usually does, despite overall economic challenges muting the wine and spirits industry overall. For bright spots, SipSource’s data shows that Reposado Tequilas are leading the pack, up 12.4% in volume over the last 12 months. Bourbon—while largely flat—is expected to see a lift during the holiday season, which SipSource attributes to consumers choosing higher-priced expressions to give as gifts. In wine, sparkling wine continues to perform well with Champagne up 3.6% by volume and Prosecco up 3.4%. —Shane English
