September 6, 2012•Brooklyn, New York-based Sixpoint Brewery is entering the state of Delaware through a partnership with Standard Distributing Co. Five of the company’s core brews—Bengali Tiger, Righteous Ale, Sweet Action, Resin and The Crisp—will be available on tap and in cans ($8.99-$9.99 for a four-pack) throughout the state. Standard Distributing will also host a number of consumer events and tastings both on-premise and at retail to mark the brand’s entry into the new market. Sixpoint produces about 25,000 barrels of beer a year. Standard Distributing represents many brewers and importers of beer, including MillerCoors, Guinness, Heineken and Yuengling among others.
•San Diego-based Karl Strauss Brewing Co. is marking the 100th birthday of its co-founder and namesake Karl Strauss with the re-release of Karl Strauss Amber. A San Diego session beer made with Cascade hops and Munich and sweet caramel malts, Karl Strauss Amber has been repackaged in a new can, which features a hand-sketched portrait of Karl Strauss. Rolling out this month, the 4.5%-abv brew will be available on draft and in six-packs throughout California, joining the brewery’s year-round lineup. Last year, Karl Strauss reported total production of 40,000 barrels.
•Seattle’s Elysian Brewing has unveiled Valhalla, the final expression in the brewer’s 2012 Manic IPA series. An India Pale Ale made with Sorachi Ace and Citra hops, Valhalla will be available on draft and in 22-ounce bottles throughout Elysian’s Northwest, East Coast and Colorado markets, this month through December. The limited-time offering follows previous 2012 Manic IPA launches, including Idiot Sauvin (available January through April) and Prometheus (May through August).
