Originating as Natty Greene’s flagship Buckshot Amber Ale, the 6.5%-abv offering is brewed with several varieties of bacteria and yeast—which create the beer’s sour notes—and aged in oak before being blended and packaged in 750-ml. bottles. Only 240 bottles of American Sour Ale will be available at select North Carolina retail outlets. Established in 2004, Natty Greene’s currently operates two brewpubs in Greensboro and Raleigh, as well as a Greensboro-based production facility with a capacity of 200,000 barrels, which provides beer for major grocery stores, independent retailers and around 700 taps throughout the state.
