Ste. Michelle To Separate Two Vines From Columbia Crest, Move Some Sourcing To California

Next month, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates will introduce former Columbia Crest offshoot Two Vines as its own brand. The company, Washington’s largest wine producer, will also be using grapes from California for some of the new stand-alone brand’s vintages, as the demand for Washington grapes has outpaced supply. Two Vines Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon will be produced with California grapes, while other wines—Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and Merlot-Cabernet blend—will continue to use Washington grapes. About a quarter-million cases of California-sourced Two Vines wine will be produced. Shipments of Two Vines’ Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (around $7.50 a 750-ml.) will roll out in January with a new label, with the other rebranded wines to follow as new vintages become ready.
